Speed Exceeding Posted Speed Limit – CVC 22350
What is CVC 22350 Speeding?
A charge under VC 22350 alleges that you violated the basic speed law. What is the speed? Depends on what it’s been posted for. Under California Vehicle Code, the speed limit on every highway is 65, with a caveat that local governments can reduce the speed of a road to a slower speed. If the local jurisdiction reduces the speed and issues tickets, the reduced speed must be supported by a traffic engineering survey. If there is no speed survey, and the officer used an electronic device to clock your speed, then it’s an illegal speed trap.
What Are CVC 22350 Penalties?
If you are found guilty or simply pay the fine for a CVC 22350 the DMV will place a point on your record for 3 years. Insurance companies then take you off “good driver discount” status and increase your premium accordingly. Over the course of 3 years you may pay $900 to $4,000 more for car insurance just because of a point. Fines are another penalty imposed by the court. The amount of fines depends on the speed over the speed limit for which you are convicted and if you have prior moving violations. Fines typically range between $350 and $600 for the speeding charge alone.
